A View from Cartagena, Colombia

I wish I could tell you when I was leaving or what I was going to do next, but I just don’t know.  I’ve spent the last four days working to get my Manson Supreme anchor out of the shipping port, but it still isn’t done.  Mostly the delay is because I didn’t want to pay the local shipping agent $327 dollars when I’ve already paid the New Zealand shipping company the same amount.  However, they have me over the proverbial barrel and I coughed up the money this afternoon.  It has still been a very cool process to learn even if a frustrating one.  I could have hired a local agent to help with all the customs and port clearance procedures, but as they say, experience is the best teacher and now I know the process.  With the invoice paid I should be able to don my hard hat and bright orange safety vest on Monday and return to the port with the correct papers to liberate my anchor from the port and myself from Colombia.  My days are running short and I still hope to make Colon, Panama to start my Canal transit by Feb. 1st.  Some good friends on a boat named Coconut are leaving soon as well and we may go do a week in the San Blas before heading to Colon together for the transit.  It’d be nice to have some friends at hand for the crossing for line handling through the canal and such.

With the extra week I’ve had in Colombia I decided it was time to bust out the camera and be a full blown, no fitting in, gringo tourist.  Here are a small handful of some recent shots taken.  Cheers all and stay tuned.  The sailing adventure begins again soon.

I'm envious -- very much so. Be safe.

Good luck with "customs" and getting to Panama. Remember everything takes a little longer than you think.

Thanks Wheeler. Cool site you've got. Beautiful work.

Melissa - That open invite is still there.

Cheryl - Tell me about it. I thought I was used to it, but this one is just crazy.

Absolutely stunning photos! You were able to show part of the world as it really is and that is always magical! No made up tourist scenes, just locals doing what they do best. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks Michelle! Cartagena has a lot of different faces. It is a hard city to capture and do any justice to...well, difficult for an amateur like me. Glad you like the shots. I'll try to get some more uploaded to Flickr in the next few days.
